Regine bonds with Ilokanos, hails Vigan’s nomination to New 7 Wonders

MANILA, Philippines - A year after the successful World Costume Festival that showcased the best garments from various countries, GMA Network marked another partnership with Vigan this year for the New 7 Wonders Cities of the World campaign.

In its bid for the title, the city government of Vigan tied up with GMA Regional TV (RTV) for the said campaign in a kick-off ceremony held last May 1 at the Vigan Convention Center with Regine Velasquez-Alcasid (photo) as special performer.

The affair was attended by Vigan city officials led by Mayor Eva Marie Medina, GMA RTV key officers headed by AVP and head of the Integrated Marketing Services Division Oliver Amoroso and New 7 Wonders Foundation executive director Jean Paul de la Fuente.

Alongside the campaign kick-off was Vigan City’s celebration of the Binatbatan Festival of the Arts where Regine’s fans were treated to a night of supreme musicality via a Kapuso Fans’ Day mounted by GMA RTV.

Regine wannabes belted out their versions of the songbird’s all-time favorite singles while the Sarap Diva look-alikes bested out each other in impersonating her. The contestants were on a high when Regine sang with them. At one point, Regine sat on the edge of the stage and sang the heartbreaking Dadalhin.

Highlights of the networks’ participation in the Binatbatan Festival can be seen in Let’s Fiesta TV Special airing May 25, via regional stations in Bicol, Cebu, Davao, Iloilo, Dagupan, Ilocos, GenSan, Bacolod and Cagayan de Oro.

Casting of votes for the New 7 Wonders Cities of the World is open until the end of December through www.new7wonders.com/en/cities.
