MANILA, Philippines - Director Jun Lana’s Barber’s Tales won the Crystal Mulberry trophy (third place) for Audience Award in the 16th Far East Film Festival in Udine, Northeastern Italy, Saturday night, May 3.
Lead actress Eugene Domingo (photo) received the trophy on behalf of Jun. Eugene was one of the panelists during the Ties That Bind Asia — Europe Producers Workshop with this year’s theme, Acting Different: East and West.
The Eternal Zero by Yamazaki Takashi of Japan and The Attorney by Yang Woo-seok of Korea received the Golden Mulberry and Silver Mulberry trophies, first and second place, respectively.
Other local films screened in the festival were Lino Brocka’s Maynila... Sa Mga Kuko ng Liwanag (Restored Classics 2K Section), Sigrid Andrea Bernardo’s Ang Huling Cha-cha ni Anita, Chito Roño’s Badil and Shoot To Kill: Boy Golden, Jerrold Tarog’s Sana Dati, Andrew Leavold’s The Search for Weng Weng and Siege Ledesma’s Shift.
According to its official website, Far East Film Festival is dubbed as “The Film Festival for Popular Asian Cinema,†organized by Centro Espressioni Cinematografiche (C.E.C.), a Cultural Association financed by the Italian Government, the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, the Udine Provincial and Municipal Authorities.
