MANILA, Philippines – Yan Asuncion, the fiancé of singer Yeng Constantino, said he knew the Kapamilya artist was the one he wanted to marry even before they officially became a couple.

The couple were a couple for only eight months before Yan, a Christian worship director, proposed to Yeng last weekend.

But in an interview with ABS-CBN’s showbiz talks show “Buzz ng Bayan” on Sunday, March 9, Yan said he doesn’t need years of being in a relationship with Yeng to know that she is “the one” for him.

“First time pa lang ako nagsabi sa kanya na liligawan ko siya, alam ko na siya na yung gusto ko, e,” Yan said. “And nag-decide na talaga ako na siya na yung girl na ipupursue ko, siya na yung gusto ko habangbuhay.”

He added, “So hindi na siya masyadong effort na nag-propose ako sa kanya kasi alam ko na talaga e, decided na ako.”

Yeng and Yan became a couple June of last year. Yan, a Christian worship director, is Yeng’s first boyfriend.

The “Buzz ng Bayan” report revealed Yan proposed to Yeng on Friday, March 8, after watching a stage musical with some friends and a dinner in Taguig City.

Didn’t Yan consider the possibility of Yeng saying no to his proposal?

"It’s a question, sobrang valid n’ya. Pero knowing her and knowing yung relationship, kahit papaano may confidence na ako na she feels the same way na rin,” he explained.

For her part, Yeng told “Buzz ng Bayan”: “Sobrang saya ko lang na tinake n’ya yung leap of faith na yun na sabihin n’ya sa akin yun that night.”

“Thank you so much for just jumping,” Yeng told Yan. “Sobrang inohonor ko yung heart mo. Hindi ko makakalimutan yung sinabi mo sa akin dati nung first pa lang natin na na-settle mo na sa heart mo na mahalin ako kahit anong makita mo sa akin along the way.

"It’s something na nag-inspire sa akin to really learn how to love unconditionally,” she added.

There’s no set date yet for their wedding, although it seems like 2014 is shaping up to be the year of nuptials and engagements for local show business following the wedding of Iya Villania and Drew Arellano and the upcoming marriages of Karylle and Yael Yuzon, and Boots Anzon-Roa and Francisco Rodrigo.
