MANILA, Philippines - Meet Rock Ong, at four years old probably the youngest OFW. Rock is one of the grandchildren of Northern Samar Rep. Emil Ong. Rock’s father is Rep. Emil’s son, dentist David Ong (whose wife is Cristina Garcia-Ong). The boy models for Target, the popular supermarket chain in the US. “Do you know how much he’s earning?†asked Rep. Emil. “$200 per day when he’s hired for a Target project.†Wow!
Based in Minnesota, USA, Rock was here recently to act as ring bearer at the wedding of Rep. Emil’s nephew Ace Ong Alano and Bernice Tan last Jan. 19 at the San Sebastian Church. Ace and Bernice were high-school classmates at Chiang Kai Shek College, then he went to Ateneo to take up a course in Business Management and Bernice to La Salle (Marketing Management and European Studies). They went steady for nine years before they decided to get married.
Rock was a scene-stealer at the ceremony and at the reception in the Grand Ballroom of Crowne Plaza Galleria Hotel.
“I’m proud of my apo,†added Rep. Emil whose pet projects include one about OFWs. “Although born in the US, he’s proud to be a Filipino.â€
