‘Kimmy Dora’ producers air dismay on 39th MMFF awards results

MANILA, Philippines- The producers of the 39th Metro Manila Film festival entry “Kimmy Dora Ang Kiyemeng Prequel” expressed their dismay over the results of the festival’s awards.

Among the 22 awards given that night, the film did not get any one of them.

The film’s producers, namely Erickson Raymundo, Piolo Pascual, Joyce Bernal, and Shayne Sarte, said that what happened to their entry is “very unfortunate,” Philippine Entertainment Portal reported Friday evening.

In their statement they said, “it was very unfortunate that Kimmy Dora Ang Kiyemeng Prequel and its lead actress, Eugene Domingo, did not get the right recognition due them.”

Maricel Soriano bagged the best actress award for her performance in the comedy film “Girl, Boy, Bakla, Tomboy.”

They also said that the "Chris Martinez ( the movie's director), was not even nominated based on the merits of the film."

“Likewise, a lot of people from various sectors in the industry share our sentiment by means of their articles and blogs citing the film’s production excellence.”

Joyce Bernal won the best director  award for the film “10,000 Hours.” Bernal directed the first two installations of "Kimmy Dora".

Still, the producers said that "what matters more now is that moviegoers enjoy the film and leave the theaters delighted and happy.”
