History presents King Bhumibol of Thailand

MANILA, Philippines - To mark the 86th birthday of Thailand’s King Bhumibol Adulyadej, History is premiering King Bhumibol of Thailand: The People’s King, a documentary on the life and achievements of the Thai monarch. The documentary traces the extraordinary life of the world’s longest-serving monarch, providing insights into what has elevated the King to a god-like status amongst his people of Thailand. Not a King by birthright, he took his place as Thailand’s King when his brother was shot and killed in 1946.

The one-hour documentary will bring the story of the extraordinary man and king to a regional television audience for the first time across Asia. The special will be narrated for Thai audiences by award-winning Thai actor and director Noppon Komarachun.

“History brings to life the people and events that shape the world around us. Few have had such a great impact on their country as King Bhumibol,” said Michele Schofield, senior VP of programming and Marketing for A+E Networks Asia. “It is our honor to celebrate the King’s 86th birthday next month with the premiere of King Bhumibol of Thailand: The People’s King. As the world’s longest-serving monarch, this is a wonderful tribute to the father of the modern nation of Thailand. We wish His Highness many more good years ahead.”

King Bhumibol of Thailand: The People’s King is the product of a collaboration between A+E Networks Asia and the STG Group. It is a specially edited version of My King, a two-hour documentary that was released on DVD in Thailand last year. The docu will premiere on Dec. 5 at 10 p.m.

History is available on Cablelink Ch. 43; Cignal Ch. 118, Dream Satellite Ch. 30; Destiny Cable Ch. 57, SKYCable Ch. 67 and other cable operators in the Philippines.
