Niño Muhlach: Not about stardom anymore

MANILA, Philippines- Unlike during his childhood years,  Niño Muhlach  is rarely seen either in TV shows or films.

The most recent projects that he’s done are in films namely “Juana C,” “OTJ,” and “Slumber Party.”

It’s not because  he has turned his back on showbiz.

â€œKasi hindi naman na ako nagpapasikat pa or hindi naman ako nag-e-expect na maging superstar ulit, na babalikan ko yung dati kong career,” he said in an interview Friday afternoon, November 22.

“Kasi di ba sabi nga, once you’ve reached the top there’s nowhere else to go but down,” he adds. “E, ako at an early age narating ko na yung pinakarurok ng bundok, di ba? So ngayon talaga it’s more of gusto ko yung project, masaya ako sa ginagawa ko, it’s more of that.”

Just like in the film “Slumber Party” where he portrayed a serious gay character and not the flamboyant stereotypical gay character.

Though he was only given two days to memorize and practice his lines  in gay lingo, Niño didn’t hesitate to accept the project.

First reason is that he’s friends with Emma dela Cruz who’s directing the film. Another is that he wanted ever since to portray a real gay role, “gusto ko yun!” he exclaims. “I’ve been wanting to do 'yung seryosong bading, hindi nagbabakla-baklaan lang.”

And after bringing in his own costume, hiring a hair and makeup artist, and even had his nails done, Niño gave life to Gay-Mother, who is Jhonel’s (Sef Cadayona) aunt.

“Slumber Party” will have its commercial release on November 27, at cinemas nationwide.
