Two Emmys for 60 Minutes’ Bin Laden episode

MANILA, Philippines - 60 Minutes bagged six awards at the 34th Annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards. Among the episodes that won was the Killing Bin Laden episode which was named Outstanding Interview in a News Magazine and Best Report in a News Magazine.

In the episode hosted by Scott Pelley, 60 Minutes does an exclusive interview with Mark Owen, a member of the Navy Elite Seal Team 6. Mark Owen is not his real name and was prepped by 60 Minutes to be in disguise for four hours. He served 14 years in the Navy and was assigned to the US Naval Warfare Development before going on assignment in the hunt for Osama Bin Laden.

Owen wrote the book No Easy Day which tells the story of their pursuit of Bin Laden. He says that the book is not about him, but all the Americans who gathered intelligence, planned and trained for the raid. The members of the team got medals of valor and the Purple Heart for the injuries incurred during the raid.
