MANILA, Philippines - Rufa Mae Quinto (photo) takes on a refreshing change in Viva Films’ latest offering, the action-dramedy Ang Huling Henya, showing in 100 theaters nationwide.
Rufa Mae returns to the movie scene as brainy, kick-ass agent Miri Alvarez. The comedienne sheds off her booba image to play one of the best agents of an international group organized to protect scientists and inventors from tech bandits called The Agency.
It is Rufa Mae’s first attempt at a serious lead action role since box-office comedies like Kimmy Dora: Kambal sa Kiyeme, Desperadas 2, Manay Po 2: Overload, Desperadas, Pasukob, Oh My Ghost!, D’Anothers, Masikip sa Dibdib: The Boobita Rose Story, Super B, Mahal Kita: Final Answer, Pagdating ng Panahon and Booba.
Prior to filming, she underwent a drama workshop in Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA) and did rigorous training in Muay Thai, boxing and firing for the physically demanding action scenes.
Miri is hot-headed. She refuses to follow orders. In one of the group’s rescue operations, her refusal to follow protocol gets her long-time partner killed. So Miri is suspended and is sent back to Manila.
Her return to Manila only brings her back to more trouble — of the personal kind. Even as a young girl, Miri believed she is responsible for her parents’ death and the guilt has kept her from building healthy relationships with those around her, especially with her younger brother Mark (portrayed by Edgar Allan Guzman).
Miri is trapped in her past and present time, her whole past comes crashing back to her life: Old dead secrets, her dead parents and even zombies!
Collaborating with direk Marlon Rivera in the project is good friend director Chris Martinez, with whom he previously worked in other movies such as Shake, Rattle & Roll 13, My Valentine Girls, Ang Babae sa Septic Tank and Kimmy Dora.
Also in the cast are Fabio Ide, Candy Pangilinan, DJ Durano, Ricci Chan, Kean Cipriano, Ayen Laurel, Jovic Munsod and Robert Sena.
Ang Huling Henya is now showing in theaters nationwide.
