PPO headlines Shang’s August events

MANILA, Philippines - Head over this month to Shangri-La Plaza and enjoy the majestic sounds of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO, photo), the nation’s leading symphony orchestra.

Inaugurated in 1973, the orchestra’s prestigious roster of members is led by some of the country’s biggest names in music, such as multi-awarded pianist Raul Sunico, Germany-based conductor and violinist Oscar Yatco and stage director and playwright Chris Millado; and presently operates under the helm of music director and principal conductor Olivier Ochanine.

The PPO has performed with conductors such as Mendi Rodan, Piero Gamba, Yaacov Bergman and Nicholas Koch; and has collaborated with local and international musicians the likes of Cecile Licad, Martin Nievera, Anthony Camden and David Benoit.

Catch PPO’s performances for the Shang Orchestra Series with All Time Favorites today at 5 p.m., 6 p.m. and 7 p.m., and Blockbuster Hits on Aug. 31, 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.; both at the mall’s new East Wing.

The Shang Musical Trio Weekend also happens today at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. The Silent Film Festival runs from Aug. 23 to 25. Also to watch out at the mall’s new wing is Strings on Fire presenting violinist Princess on Aug. 25, 7 p.m.
