Warwick, the ultimate pop star

MANILA, Philippines - Few international pop singers and artists of the past 50 years have had a deeper and more profound impact on popular music than Dionne Warwick.

With her sweet and gorgeous voice, elegant singing style and remarkable versatility, she has infused the music industry with a refreshingly new kind of dynamism, enthusiasm and energy that invariably kept millions of fans in awe.

Pinoy fans will re-discover the brilliance of one of the greatest pop singers of all time when Warwick, who popularized hits like Walk On  By, Do You Know The Way To San Jose?, I Say A Little Prayer and I’ll Never Fall In Love Again, makes her much-awaited appearance tonight at the Smart Araneta Coliseum as a major highlight of her 2013 Philippine tour, with another show at the University of Baguio in Baguio City on July 25.

Appearing as front act is Tavares, the popular American soul group of the ’70s and ’80s, except at the University of Baguio show, which will feature Dionne only.

Ovation Productions is bringing back the pop and R&B star to the concert scene almost three years after her 2010 tour, during which she enthralled the sold-out audiences at the Smart Araneta Coliseum and the Waterfront Cebu City Hotel & Casino.

Her debut single, Don’t Make Me Over, was released in November, 1962 and became a hit the following year, while her fourth single, Anyone Who Had A Heart (December, 1963), became her first Top 10 pop hit (No. 8), followed by Walk On By (April, 1964), her first No. 1 R&B  hit and a million-dollar seller.

After an absence of several years from the charts, she made a triumphant return in 1979 with the ballad, I’ll Never Love This Way Again.

In 2012, she celebrated her 50th year in music with the album, Now, which featured most of the songs written by Bacharach and David. She also marked the milestone with the distinction of being one of the best-selling singers of all time and being ranked among the 40 biggest hitmakers of the entire rock era (1955-2012) based on Billboard Hot 100 Pop Singles charts.

Tavares, the front act for the concert tour, is an American R&B, funk and soul group composed of five Cape Verdean-American brothers from New Bedford, Massachusetts and which rose to fame for classic hits like Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel, More Than A Woman, She’s Gone, Hardcore Poetry, It Only Takes A Minute, A Penny For Your Thought and Check It Out.
