Just in case you are among those parents wondering who those Chicsers are and how they can make their tween girls happy with a Chicsers treat, I will provide you with the answer. The Chicsers, which must be the hottest boy group in town, will be having their first concert at the Music Museum in Greenhills on May 24. Presented by the myBro Wireless Home Broadband, the show titled Chillin’ With Chicser, A Breakthrough Concert, will have the boys singing, dancing and interacting with their fans in two very special performances. There will be a matinee at 3 p.m. and another show at 7 p.m. I am sure they will make a lot of girls very happy.
Thanks to the popularity of the likes of One Direction, Lawson, The Wanted and others, there is once again a huge interest worldwide in young boy bands. Now, as anybody who keeps abreast with the local music industry will surely tell you, while Pinoys are quick to adopt foreign music trends, the boy band is one that we have never had any success with. I know of several attempts but not one had any kind of impact. I cannot even recall a single hit from a local boy band. So when I see all those fans going all giddy over the Chicsers, I cannot help but wonder if we have finally found the boys who will break our boy band curse.
The Chicsers, young, wholesome and very attractive, started dancing together while still in high school during which they called themselves Service Crew. Then one fortuitous day, two years ago, somebody uploaded on YouTube a video that the boys shot of themselves dancing to to the hit tune Teach Me How To Dougie. Choreographed by Chicser Ullyses “Ully†Webb Basa and edited by Chicser Ranz Kyle Ongsee, the video became a true-blue sensation on the Internet. After an astonishing four million hits later, it was obvious that the Chicsers had garnered a large fan following. The boys were getting booked for live shows and television and signed to endorsement deals.
More videos and more hits later, the Chicsers recently completed the boy band package with the recording contract they signed with the Viva Music Group. And after marathon sessions at the studio, they have now released their first album. The boys can now sing and dance to their own songs and make their fans happy with the gorgeous pics in the CD cover, which by the way, comes in two editions. That means, same album but two kinds of covers with different photos, of course. This is a case of just buy the copy you want or get both.
Produced by FlipMusic Productions, Co. for Viva Records and simply titled Chicsers, the album is made up of new Filipino originals. The Chicsers songs are light pop, typical boy-band fare with simple, easy-to-relate-to Taglish lyrics and upbeat rhythms. These are Hello I Love You, written, arranged and produced by Thyro Alfaro; Meant For You, composed by Bojam de Belen and Kidwolf Barbaso and produced by Bojam; and When You Dance, written by Kidwolf and Jasper Lukban and also arranged and produced by Kidwolf. Also included in the album are acoustic mixes of Hello I Love You and Meant For You.
