Gloria Romero: Miss Visayas ’54

Gloria Romero, who turned 79 last Dec. 16, was Miss Visayas in 1954, during the Boys Town Carnival, then the most prestigious and popular beauty pageant in the country.

As expected, Miss Romero was the center of public and media attention. After all, she was (and still is) the most regal and beautiful movie queen, adored by millions.

In 1954, Gloria starred in such blockbusters as Pilya, Kurdapya, Dalagang Ilocana, which gave her the FAMAS Best Actress award.

Gloria wore an elegant gown with tiara created by the country’s greatest designer, Ramon Valera, later named National Artist. Gloria was Valera’s signature model.
