MANILA, Philippines - Singer-songwriter Noel Cabangon may not be the most popular teen star, or the most handsome celebrity, but his albums have consistently topped the music sales charts making him one of the most bankable acts of OPM.
His previous albums Byahe and Panaginip, aside from receiving critical acclaims, were awarded multi-platinum record awards.
Noel continues his winning streak as his latest album Tuloy Ang Byahe, under Universal Records, instantly topped the music charts when it was released beating recordings of popular teen stars and international acts.
Tuloy Ang Byahe, also the most downloaded album in www.mymusicstore.com.ph, has been on the record bars’ sales chart since it was released less than two months ago.
“There is something with the way Noel Cabangon performs songs — heartfelt and sincere,” says Christian Bautista. “Every music-loving Filipino should complete his Noel Cabangon collection. These are treasures of OPM.”
Tuloy Ang Byahe is a follow-up to the hit Byahe, released more than two years ago. It features Noel’s renditions of some of the most loved OPM classics, originally performed by Smokey Mountain, Leah Navarro, VST & Company, Dulce, APO, Freddie Aguilar, Florante, Rey Valera, Hotdog and Zsa Zsa Padilla, among others.
The album’s carrier single Tuwing Umuulan At Kapiling Ka has been enjoying good airplay on radio.
In celebration of the success of his albums, Noel will have a Music Museum concert billed Tuloy Ang Byahe on Sept. 28. He will be joined by Christian, Gloc-9 and other special guests.
The concert, produced and directed by PETA, celebrates the finest OPM compositions in hours of good music. For tickets, call Ticketworld at 891-9999.
The successes of Noel, however, did not come overnight. Before becoming one of the most bankable OPM icons, he started his professional singing career more than three decades ago in little known folk houses, bars and underground watering holes, where he slowly but steadily made a name for himself.
Noel then was tapped to be a part of the group Buklod, which released three albums oriented toward social, political and cultural issues. He then pursued a solo singing career and released albums for independent labels like Jesuit Music Ministry and Ballyhoo Records before joining Universal Records in 2009 for the Byahe album.
Noel has also performed around and out of the country, doing concerts and performances in France, Belgium, Germany and Switzerland, while his many advocacies have brought him to Brazil, India, Kenya, Thailand and Hong Kong.
Over the years, Noel has written songs for the causes he believes and matters close to his heart.
With almost 20 years of being a performer, and an untold number of years as a lover of music, Noel is still doing what he does best — writing music, and singing about the things that matter most to him.
