MANILA, Philippines - Twenty-two years of experience in any field is considered a lot, more so in journalism. Pia Hontiveros (photo) started her career as a journalist in September 1989. She had her baptism of fire when she covered the bloodiest coup d’état the country has ever seen back in December 1989. After honing her craft for decades, Pia is ready to embark on a new undertaking as the host of Solar Network News.
“I’m looking forward to this new adventure,” Pia said. “What a journey it has been and what a journey it will be; that’s how I look at my career in journalism.”
Solar Network News is the first local evening newscast that will air on TALKtv. In the newscast, Pia will be working with reporters who are all fairly new to the field but according to her, their lack of experience will not be a problem.
Pia, along with Jing Magsaysay, hosted Solar News’ special coverage of the recently concluded impeachment trial of the Chief Justice. “Being an anchor is like riding a bike or driving a car; you never really forget how to do it,” said Pia. She has been at it for 22 years and she shows no signs of slowing down because of one reason. “I love my job,” she answered.
Solar Network News will have its live maiden broadcast on June 18 at 6 p.m.
Solar Network News airs Mondays to Fridays at 6 p.m. on TALKtv. TALKtv is seen on Sky Ch. 16, Global Destiny Ch. 28, Cignal Ch. 21 and Cablelink Ch. 12.
