Marissa del Mar tackles OFW issues on show

MANILA, Philippines - In her effort to inform and protect the public, Marissa del Mar tackles the issue of the growing number of recruitment issues on the May 19 episode of her public service program dedicated to OFWs titled Buhay OFW. Now on its third season, the hour-long program airs on TV5’s Aksyon TV 41.

Recent statistics show there are many Filipinos who prefer to work abroad for better pay. Del Mar discusses the illegal recruitment issue with the Licensing and Regulation Office of Philippine Overseas Employment Agency (POEA) through lawyer Melchor Dizon (Director IV) who talks about how to spot and avoid Internet and migration scam as well as illegal recruiters. Dizon also shares the requirements and responsibilities of a reliable recruitment agency.  

One of the countries being sought out by Filipinos for work opportunities is Singapore. In Trabaho Abroad, Sigurado, Buhay OFW tackles the expectations, the language and customary traits and beliefs of Singaporeans towards migrant professional workers. The segment also takes a look at Singapore’s efficient transportation system.

OFW in Focus features Melissa Alexis Magsino of New York City, who works as an assistant to the vice president and director for field operations of Asbestos Corp. of America. She shares her life living and surviving in the business capital of the world.

Del Mar gives viewers a glimpse of the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) 30th anniversaryhighlights which included the blessing of the newly-installed gym and conference room led by OWWA Administrator Carmelita Dimzon and Department of Labor and Employment Secretary Rosalinda Dimapilis-Baldoz. A photo exhibit of OWWA’s 30 years of dedicated service to the Filipino people was also unveiled. 

Also featured on the episode is the National Real Estate Association’s (NREA) First Chapter Conference and Trade Exhibit held in San Fabian, Pangasinan. The event was led by Buhay OFW host and NREA national president Del Mar with NREA founder and chairman Jose Manalad. The event was fully supported by the San Fabian Philippine Tourism Authority and San Fabian City Mayor Irene Libunao. More than a hundred delegates from Region 1, 2, 3 and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) took part in the two-day conference of learning, sharing and bonding.

Buhay OFW airs every Saturday, 10 to 11 p.m. on Aksyon TV 41.
