Many elements come into play in making a concert successful. These include performers who take creative risks, an exciting repertoire and production values that provide the razzmatazz.
This is how I felt when I heard about the forthcoming back-to-back concert of American singers Taylor Dayne and Edwin McCain which will be held at Waterfront Hotel in Cebu on May 30 and at the SM MOA Arena in Manila on June 1. Both possessing powerful vocals and a treasure trove of hits, many are excited to watch the live performance of these two singers who always leave their audiences clamoring for more by the time they do their finale numbers.
Dayne is the quintessential ’80s diva. She is famous for her danceable hits Prove Your Love and Tell It To My Heart and the unforgettable ballads I’ll Always Love You and Love Will Lead You Back. Considered one of the music scene’s foremost vixens during her prime with her pouting lips, beguiling eyes and voluptuous body, she keeps audiences’ undivided attention whenever she picks up the mic to sing. Her voice has so many colors. She can coo, growl, belt those lyrical notes. Her catalogue of songs spanning several genres stands as testament to her versatility as a vocalist and the stage persona she exudes is something that continues to win fans even to this day.
McCain, on the other hand, has had people swooning over his biggest hits I’ll Be and I Could Not Ask for More. It is said that a good song can be arranged any which way and still comes out shining and McCain proves this with his two tunes. Whether done with a full band or in acoustic version, McCain’s sincerity and vocal prowess just go straight to the heart and have people believing in the power of love all over again. A karaoke staple for many, it would be a real treat to hear him sing these songs as well as his other hits up close and personal.
Will the two singers do duets? Well, it’s a back-to-back show but if they do, what a treat that would be!
We like concerts that bring such topnotch talents together. Concert goers get to savor more hit songs than if it were just a solo show, and in this case, they can expect to sing along to some of the hits, dance to the others, chill out to the rest as Dayne and McCain have the kind of songs that cater to different musical tastes.
The Back 2 Back Ultimate Concert of Taylor Dayne and Edwin McCain is produced by Blue Dream and supported by Astroplus, MYX, Manila Bulletin, Business World, Manila Concert Scene, Clickthecity.com and EDSA Shangri-La hotel. The special guest in the show is Jay-R.
