Charlie Green returns

I believe I am already hearing a lot of eager giggles from young girls around. Charlie Green is coming back to the Philippines next week. He is set to join Sharon Cuneta and Martin Nievera at their Once In A Lifetime concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Saturday, Feb. 11. He is also set to launch his latest international album Rainbow. And brace yourselves, he is now 5’9” tall and terribly handsome.

I am sure that you all remember Charlie. He was this cute kid who wowed the UK when he appeared in the talent show Britain’s Got Talent singing Frank Sinatra’s Summer Wind. He came in second in the finals and because he is part-Filipino — his mom is from Iloilo — he was soon whisked off to the Philippines where everybody instantly adored him singing Dahil Sa ‘Yo with an endearing British accent. He has since then recorded two albums, done concerts and performed on television.

He has also been growing up. That is what little boys do, grow up, and he is no different. And that is just what Charlie has been doing back home in England where he has been this past year. That and also studying. Charlie is enrolled in the Oxford Home Schooling program and is now getting ready to take his GCSE exams. That means moving up a level and hopefully, being able to relax a bit from schoolwork.

Since he is now a professional performer, Charlie also worked. He went to China and Japan to promote his last album and it was a huge hit. Then he recorded new tracks in Italy and the US for his Rainbow album. He also had to do cover and publicity shots, a video shot or two, interviews and other stuff that pop stars have to do. Nowadays, Charlie is busy getting ready to come to Manila and he is very excited.

“I am really looking forward to my time in the Philippines,” messaged Charlie. “I can’t wait to see all my showbiz friends and meet my dedicated fans. So many of them have contacted me on Twitter saying how excited they are to see me again.”

Those of you who are excited to see Charlie can catch him at the Big Dome with Sharon and Martin. He will also be at Eastwood City at 7 p.m. on Feb. 14 for a very special Valentine’s Day show to launch his album. He will next perform at the Abreeza Mall in Davao City on Feb. 17. He will sign copies of his Rainbow CD and pose for pictures with fans. In between these, Charlie will also do select TV shows and visit various radio stations.

Charlie’s Rainbow album was produced by Christian de Walden. It is set for release in Europe, South America, the United Kingdom, Japan, China and the Philippines. This is the reason why the CD features Charlie singing an assortment of songs for these various markets as in Nonoy Zuniga’s Kumusta Ka for the Philippines, the legendary Sukiyaki by Kyu Sakamoto for Japan and the classic It’s Impossible (Somos Novios) for South America. The latter is a duet with the lovely star of Mexican telenovelas, the 16-year-old Danna Paola.

The rest of the album mixes old favorites and new compositions. The latter are Rainbow; Zoom, Zoom, Zoom; Just My Type; Chica Ya Ya; Infatuation; and the first single release in China and Japan, the pop-rocker Liquid Ice. The oldies which I am sure Pinoys will love are Don’t Stop by Fleetwood Mac; Daydream Believer by The Monkees; and Reach Out (I’ll Be There) by The Four Tops.

February is always a very special month for Charlie. Not because it is Valentine season. “I don’t have a girlfriend yet,” he said. “St. Valentine’s Day is something I haven’t thought too much about. I think it is a very romantic day for lots of people. So I have that to look forward to. Maybe sooner than I think!” Watch out girls.

February is special because Charlie celebrates his birthday on Feb. 16. He is turning 15 this year. He will spend it working here.
