Anne Curtis is sitting on top of the world. The career of the young actress has taken a sudden turn and zoomed off to the top. At this point in time, it can be truthfully said that the lovely Anne has it all.
First off, she is one of the stars of the biggest grossing Filipino movie of all time. No Other Woman co-starring Cristine Reyes and Derek Ramsay, despite its R-13 rating, has already grossed over P200M and is expected to make a fetching P250M bucks at the box-office at the end of its run.
And it is not only a commercial success; people cannot seem to stop talking about the great-looking leads and how well they did their parts. This development can mean that Anne could be going home with an acting award or a box-office queen trophy one of these days.
Anne is one of the country’s top product endorsers. There is no way one can pass our major thoroughfares without coming across billboards featuring Anne. SMDC, Smart, GSM Blue, L’Oreal, Folded and Hung are those that easily come to mind. I do not like it that Manila is becoming a city of billboards and malls but I have to admit that Anne makes a pretty sight. And have you ever seen anybody around who looks as good as she does in a bikini?
Then non-singer Anne now has something that all singers dream of a Gold Record award. This is for the incredible sales performance of her first album Annebisyosa. No. 1 for the past two weeks and a strong chance will make three soon. There were people who said that Anne cannot sing. But she showed them she could and now has the last laugh.
Annebisyosa, title chosen by Anne as a way of poking fun at herself, was produced by Alwyn Cruz and Civ Fontanilla and arranged by Benjie Pantig. The album’s first single releases are Tinamaan Ako, a composition by Whey Guevarra and Geraldine Lim, the same team behind the hit song Porque by the band Maldita and Mouth, the big seller by Merill Bainbridge that is one of Anne’s favorites. She likes to think of herself as a Mouth because of her very distinctive lips usually painted with bright red lipstick.
Also special is Alone, originally by the rock/country duo of Heart but now better known as a Celine Dion song. This was one of the first songs that Anne learned to sing live and she never fails to amaze audiences with her rendition. There is also Total Eclipse Of The Heart, where she duets with her good friend Sarah Geronimo. Anne was preparing to sing this solo during her birthday celebration in the TV show ASAP but to her surprise Sarah joined her on stage and they did the duet. This cut is proof that for all her perceived vocal limitations, Annebisyosa Anne can sound good with a singing champion like Sarah.
There is also Bizarre Love Triangle chosen because, it was a hit by the Australian band Frente and, just in case, you do not know yet, Anne is part-Australian. Then there are Cyndi Lauper’s Girls Just Wanna Have Fun and Too Many Walls by Cathy Dennis, which were both produced by DJ M.O.D. And then to close the CD, there is a bonus track, the long version of Anne’s own GSM Blue commercial jingle.
Annebisyosa was done just for fun. Anne has discovered she likes singing and wanted to have her own CD. From the way the album is selling though, I will not be surprised if she comes up with a second one soon. That is if she will be able to find room in her busy schedule. Truth to tell to this day, she still has to find time to do that most important requisite of pop stars, the music video. Had she done one, I have a strong feeling it will also be No. 1 in the MYX hit chart.
Fans who want to see Anne perform songs from Annebisyosa, and maybe meet the actress and have their picture taken with her can go to the Sta. Lucia Mall tomorrow, Oct. 15, at 4 p.m. Next on schedule in her mall tour is Megamall on Friday, Oct. 22.
