Alembong, of course, refers to Lita Gutierrez. She is best identified with the LVN movie Alembong, a flirt, a teaser, a carefree girl.
But then Lita had her share of dramatic roles, like Hiwaga ng Pag-ibig (1958), opposite Val Castelo. It is subtitled Saing-saingan, ‘When love is young and hearts are tender.’
In the late ’60s, Lita migrated to the US but remained in touch with her LVN contemporaries, especially Nida Blanca. She died of cancer. —RKC
