Earlier, Larcy Villar was named ‘Loveliest Teenager of RP.’

Larcy, however, didn’t compete in the Miss Universe beauty pageant that year, taking her place was Annie Corrales of Cebu.

The substitution was not really new as the year before, 1956, the reigning Miss Philippines, Edith Nakpil, didn’t also compete. Instead, Isabel Rodriguez, given the title ‘Miss Benevolent,’ was sent to the Miss Universe contest. Much earlier, in 1952, Cristina Galang also didn’t compete and Teresita Sanchez took her place.

1952 was the first year of the Miss Universe beauty pageant, won by Armi Kuusela of Finland.

Larcy Villar migrated to the US with her family in the ‘60s. — RKC
