MANILA, Philippines - It takes a celebrity to make a true Christmas fruitcake for celebrities, and Ju.D Lao has been doing it for over 35 years. Now Ju.D’s famous clientele will be able to get their favorite fruitcake at Rockwell Powerplant Mall’s Bakers Dozen, held every weekend of December from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the Concourse level (where the restaurants are).
Of course, Ju.D’s maids may still experience their annual thrill if Jamie Rivera, Helen Sotto, Charlene Gonzalez-Muhlach or any of the other celebs decide they still prefer to get their fruitcake at her doorstep. Yes, they can still be ordered by calling 633-1188 or 633-0260 as well.
This month, Ju.D is still coming out with her most famous fruitcakes — the Coffee Fruitcake, the Honey Fruitcake and the Ginger Fruitcake. But the food innovator in her just never stops.
So keep your eyes out for the Golden Apricot/Cranberry fruitcake. Of her newest creation, Ju.D says, “We saw that our clients loved these flavors, so we put all their favorite things together. This Golden Fruitcake is the fruit (pardon the pun) of years of experimentation with local and imported ingredients.”
And in being true to herself, Ju.D could not resist an all-new, mirror gold package for her newest, Golden Fruitcake. They say that all that glitters may not be gold, but if it is a mirror image of oneself, it is certainly more precious.
More delicious treats are found in daughter Jamie Lao’s wonderful selection of cookies for young people — and anyone with a sense of good taste. For those who dislike sweets, there are Jamie’s Mushroom Cookies and 4 Herbs Cookies. Jamie’s delectable selection of Nougats and Petit Cookies are also back again.
Ju.D has been promoting Philippine food products through her various experiences as a TV personality both locally and overseas, as a book author, food innovator and advocate for the underprivileged. But her fruitcake is her way of saying — as she likes to humorously say, “fish be with you” because she has a fish on every fruitcake box to signify peace.
