Scarenival a howling success

MANILA, Philippines - Thousands of Nicksters and their families flocked to the Music Hall of SM Mall of Asia to be part of Nickelodeon’s Scarenival, a Halloween-themed carnival of the spooky and the kooky.

It was a different kind of dare that gave kids an exciting Halloween scare. The gates were scheduled to open at p.m. but many kids clad in their most u-Nick costumes queued up as early as lunchtime. There were bumblebees, zombies, mummies, fairies, princesses, Frankensteins, reptile-draped medusas, superheroes and some even dressed up as famous Nicktoons.

As soon as the kids entered the Scarenival grounds, they were greeted by stilt walkers and jugglers in unicycles and invited to try the creepy cotton candy and the Scarenival slush that came in two special flavors: slime slush and orange ooze. Those in the mood for some tricks and treats went around the different sponsors’ booths and bagged freebies.

Shutter bugs took scary photos of themselves at the (Mis)Fortune Teller where they could stick their heads inside a ‘crystal ball’ owned by a jumpy gypsy and the Wheel of Fate where they could pretend like they were part of an odd carnival act. Those who didn’t bring their cameras simply had to go to the Scarenival photo booth to have their free photo souvenirs.

And because the Scarenival was about having Nicksters get their kick out of the kooky, kids, especially those who went to dare for a Nickified scare, were invited to visit the Fun House which was set to amuse and confuse. First, there was the Hall of Mirrors where the mirror maze amazed as kids saw odd reflections of themselves. Then there was the Topsy Turvy Room where their worlds were turned upside-down and the Dark Room where things weren’t exactly as they seemed. But before they could even leave the wacky and whimsical house, they first had to figure out which among the many exit doors to take. Apart from the Fun House, there was an exciting slew of activities and lots of awesome prizes to be won from the stage games and the hourly raffle.

Kids were treated to a special screening of a Halloween-themed episode of Fanboy and Chum Chum and an appearance A La Kim who awed the kids with his unusual magic.

As a bonus, Nicksters who came in their creepiest costumes brought home prizes from Nickelodeon and Toy Kingdom. And because it’s not really a Nick day without the kids’ favorite Nicktoon, the day did not end until SpongeBob GhostPants came out for a howling Halloween surprise!

(Nickelodeon’s Scarenival was presented by Toy Kingdom and co-sponsored by Ace Water Spa, Appebon Kid, Argentina Deli Burger, Lotte Koala’s March, Milo, Nestle Koko Krunch, Razor and Selecta. It was in partnership with SM Mall of Asia.)
