Are married men better lovers?

TV host and commercial model Paolo Abrera, Victory Christian Fellowship pastor and basketball star L.A. Mumar and home-schooling advocate Edric Mendoza reply with an astounding “Yes!”

Their collective “Yes!” has been translated into a recently-launched movement by men for men that encourages men to become better husbands. This movement’s ultimate goal is to improve the relationship between husband and wife.

In today’s stereotype household, the husband, while waiting for dinner, lazes on the couch with his favorite beer in hand watching sports on television after a long day at work. His wife, meanwhile, not only labors over dinner in the kitchen but is also catching up on other household chores while attending to the children doing their homework even after a similar long day at work!

“Unfortunately, that’s not a picture of love or affection. It is the kind of relationship that reduces marriage to a daily routine for the couple, makes it staid and leaves the marital bed cold and wanting,” comments Paolo Abrera.

Paolo added that Filipino husbands are traditionally not demonstrative of their affection and emotion.

“Married men just assume that their wives feel their affection and love. They do not realize that they need to do more,” he further says.

“What we want is for husbands to ask themselves how much do they love their wives, and to realize that they have an important role to play in making the marriage fun and exciting,“ L.A. Mumar expounds. “The point of the advocacy is to change the values of married men.”

A very important fact about the advocacy is that it is organized by married men themselves to help each other and address issues that make it difficult for them to show their love for their partners.

Edric Mendoza explains that the advocacy’s goal is not to castigate married men but to help them: “We have all been brought up to think that men should be macho. Demonstration of affection or emotion is frowned upon by society, and the way we traditionally relate to women and to our wives is tolerated and even encouraged.”

These three dedicated husbands, who have become the ambassadors for this campaign, want the movement to grow big:

“We want to recruit more husbands into the advocacy,” Edric concurs.

Paolo attributes part of the problem to stress caused by career and the demands of raising a family.

“When you are building a career or once children become part of the picture, the husband sometimes doesn’t have the energy to make the marriage exciting. This is also evident in terms of the decline in physical romance between the husband and wife — the husband sometimes just doesn’t have the energy to please his wife at night,” Paolo explains.

Understanding the value of the advocacy, Unilab, through its product, Max by Revicon, is an ardent supporter of the campaign.

“We see a synergy in what the movement wants to achieve and our own principles as a company. The campaign seeks to help married men revive the fun and excitement in their marriage, and Max by Revicon can give them the energy and stamina to do it,” explains Erika Delgado of Unilab.
