Filipino Directors Up Close launched

MANILA, Philippines - Filipino Directors Up Close: The Golden Ages of Philippine Cinema, a book written by Bibsy M. Carballo, veteran journalist covering the entertainment and lifestyle beat, will be launched on Saturday, July 17, 5 to 6:30 p.m.. at the Silangan Hall, Cultural Center.

The launch, held by Anvil Publishing together with the CCP and Cinemalaya, has been timed with the holding of the annual Cinemalaya International Film Festival and Competition ongoing until July 18.

The book covers more than half a century of Philippine cinema in the country. Through interviews of the directors themselves, their closest relatives and friends, research and reviews of their works, Carballo has put together a primer for those interested in the arts with a representation of each significant period in Philippine cinematic history.

Featured in Filipino Directors Up Close are the six National Artists, significant directors from mainstream cinema, and the indie filmmakers making their presence felt all over the world.

Expected at the launch are directors, actors, movieworkers, film buffs and students. A short program will be hosted by Boots Anson Roa.

Filipino Directors Up Close: The Golden Ages of Philippine Cinema will be available at all National Bookstore outlets.
