The Karate Kid begins when Dre Parker’s (Jaden Smith) mother was forced to move to China. Dre suddenly finds himself no friends and cultural barriers to deal with. Worse, he becomes the enemy of the class bully, Cheng. Bullied and helpless at the hands of Cheng, Dre forms an unlikely support from the maintenance man, Mr. Han (Jackie Chan) who, as it turns out, is a kung fu master. Mr. Han teaches Dre the secrets of the art, building a friendship along the way. The story culminates in a final showdown with Cheng at a kung fu tournament. The Karate Kid is distributed by Columbia Pictures, local office of Sony Picture Releasing International.
