Juris sings a different tune

MANILA, Philippines - Juris Fernandez enjoys her single-blessedness as a recording artist and has no plans of looking back but on moving forward. Part of that is a change in musical direction.

“(My music now) leans towards country, county pop and alternative,” says Juris, M.Y.M.P former vocalist of her self-titled album. “You can hear strings and piano in the background.”

Although she veers a little away from the acoustic sounds the singer is identified with, Juris’ voice remains soothing. It makes one listen intently to the story and the lyrics behind the song.

“I’m doing fine,” Juris describes the latest development in her professional career. “I’m also happy with my album. I never had a big adjustment because I still work with the band’s old members and manager.”

Since she has charted a new direction, Juris also admits she has minor adjustments in doing things on her own. The petite singer appreciates the artistic freedom she has found anew. Now she understands the reason why she’s in the business more. And that’s to sing and to perform.

Singing to her fans and entertaining them is what Juris will wholeheartedly do in Acoustic Sessions on April 16, 8 p.m. at the SM North Edsa’s Skydome. Aiza Seguerra and Princess are the concert’s two other featured artists.

“Each artist has her own solo spot,” Juris says of the guitar-driven repertoire. “We chose new and old artists and songs. The audience can sing along with us. For other details, I’ll have to keep mum about them to surprise everyone.”

Aiza will perform her signature song Pagdating Ng Panahon, The Corrs’ Runaway, Seal’s Kiss From A Rose and Eraserheads classic Ang Huling El Bimbo.

Princess, on the other hand, will sing tracks from her debut album Addicted To Acoustic featuring Single Ladies, Bad Romance, Three and Tik Tok.

Acoustic Sessions is an all-female, three-in-one show which promises an easy listening and chill-out night-out.

Aside from individual performances, Acoustic Sessions will see Juris, Aiza and Princess in medleys interpreting recent hits like Love Story and You Belong With Me.

The show is produced by Viva Concerts and Events and presented by Mang Inasal, PCSO, The Philippine STAR, Business World, People’s Journal, Jam 88.3, Magic 89.9, 93.9iFM, 103.5 MAX FM, MYX, PBO, Viva Cinema and Viva Prime.

Juris also keeps herself busy by performing at Begaberde on Thursdays; Heritage, Wednesdays; and 19th East, Mondays. She semi-regularly appears on ABS-CBN’s A.S.A.P. XV.
