MANILA, Philippines - When Anne Curtis declared she’s ready to settle down by age 25, almost everyone who heard her pronounced “she won’t be ready by then.”
Those words seemed to be prophetic. Anne had a change of heart upon reaching the quarter of a century last Feb. 17. The idea of starting a family won’t definitely be ticked off this soon on her bucket list.
“My priorities have changed. I now understand what you’ve told me before. I’m obviously not ready to have children yet or to settle down,” Anne concedes. “But hopefully in the next years. I’ll just enjoy my being single and whatever I have right now.”
Her outlook in life has also become more serious to things that concern her future. No party took place. Neither did Anne go out of the country with friends to take a vacation the way she usually does every year. All she wants is to focus on her work that makes her schedule always full.
“I feel the responsibilities become different as you mature. I work every day literally from Monday to Sunday (because of) Showtime, A.S.A.P. and shootings or pictorials. Super work talaga and I’m happy,” Anne offers.
The thought of having built her own house and another one for her mom gladdens her heart and inspires Anne to work harder. This time, she is setting her sight on investments just like the Makati condo she bought recently.
Positive thinking, Anne says, is important in order to achieve what one aims to accomplish. That’s why even if she had that “quarter life crisis” feeling on her birthday, Anne told herself to just focus more on career and family. The time to settle down will surely come and Anne hopes to have a child when she turns 30.
“When not in showbiz, usually girls my age are engaged or already on their way to getting married, even in Australia. But once I decided to settle down, my attention is on my family na pero di ko hahayaan ang pagiging free-spirited ko.”
For now, Anne allows herself to be buried in neck-deep projects. Aside from endorsing Swatch, GSM Blue, Greenwich, Natasha, Folded & Hung, San San Cosmetics and Belo Medical Group, and TV hosting, Anne also stars in two movies — the Viva Films and Star Cinema joint venture Babe, I Love You with Sam Milby which will be shown on Black Saturday, and In Your Eyes with Richard Gutierrez and Claudine Barretto.
Playing a promo girl in Babe, I Love You excites Anne no end. She even immersed herself in the job to learn and understand the nature of the work she is about to portray in the romantic comedy. Finding out how tough it is to stand for hours offering products to customers by giving out flyers changed Anne’s perspective. Now, she accepts the flyers that are handed to her whenever she goes to the mall.
“I interviewed one (promo girl) and learned na iba-iba sila. May all-around pero mas mahirap matagal nakatayo. But I always believe that if you’re an actress you’ll accept anything bida, contravida. Show your passion.”
Aside from acting, is there any other thing she would like to do?
“One of the things I’m looking into is to go back to school to take up a course that suits my personality like a course in fashion or multimedia because I’ve been in front of the cameras for 13 years. I’m now familiar with behind the scenes work,” she replies.
