The fruitcake tandem of Ju.D and Jamie

MANILA, Philippines - Ju.D Lao, the Philippines’ Fruitcake Lady, is a celebrity, international TV personality, book author, advocate for the underprivileged, and a famous food innovator. Her daughter Jamie is the opposite — camera shy despite her beauty and brilliance. But one thing they share together — they love to work together in the kitchen.

This year, Jamie and Ju.D created gourmet cookies for students at student prices. The Sweet Petites come in five variations (Dark Chocolate Chip Ginger, Ichigo San/Mr. Strawberry, White Chocolate with Apricot & Cranberry, New York Peppermint, and Prune & White Chocolate.) Ju.D’s Savory Petites have two versions: Mushroom Parmesan Petites, and Four Herb Petites. The latter are for those who would like cookies that are not sweet. All products have no preservatives and use natural ingredients.

Now you can get Ju.D’s Sweet Petites and Savory Petites, as well as her range of excellent Fruitcakes and Chewy Chewkies and Ginger Cookies at Rockwell Powerplant every weekend of November, including Fridays. The Baker’s Dozen starts at 11 a.m. and ends at 9 p.m. You can also place orders by calling 633-1188 or 633-0260.

Kat Gonzalez, De La Salle-CSB best scholar, dean’s lister and president of the Debate Club (who models on the side) said of the Prune and White Chocolate, “The taste is overwhelmingly sinful with a punching aftertaste that satisfies you even after you’ve eaten it.” Renzo Claudio, VP of the Debate Club, Repertory Philippines actor, HS Sportsmanship awardee and model, likes peanut nougat the most. “It has a soothing aftertaste that leaves me satisfied. Not so sweet, not too hard — just right.” Of the White Chocolate & Cranberry Renzo says, “As soon as you eat it, the creaminess of the nougat melts and soothes your taste buds. It is very soft and creamy. I think this is how nougats should really taste.”
