MIR-I-NISA at the CCP

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Ballet Theatre, a resident company of the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), celebrates the 40th anniversary of the first original three-act ballet, MIR-I-NISA, a tale of a Muslim princess ready for betrothal according to Muslim custom and the two contenders for her hand in marriage.

This was premiered 40 years ago as the only classical ballet presentation featured in the inaugural festival of CCP in 1969. This ballet is based on the prize-winning story by National Artist, Jose Garcia Villa.

This was composed by Eliseo Pajaro, conceptualized by Julie Borromeo and who together with Tita Radaic choreographed MIR-I-NISA.

It was critically acclaimed at that time as the most spectacular Filipino ballet ever produced in the Philippines and the presentation of the most ambitious in local ballet history.

The matinee performances are set today, 3 p.m. and tomorrow, Nov. 8 also at 3 p.m.

Tickets are available at Ticketron outlets or call Marie at 893-1369.
