'Hukom Roldan': Man of conviction

Gregorio M. Fernandez was in the ‘50s and early ‘60s noted for his high dramas for LVN. Think of Malvarosa, Awit ng mga Dukha, Emily, Luksang Tagumpay and Higit sa Lahat, Best Picture in the Asian Film Festival in Hong Kong. It also gave Fernandez Best Director and Rogelio de la Rosa Best Actor awards in the filmfest.

Add to that list of high-dramas Hukom Roldan (1957), telling the story of a judge involved in domestic problems, abandoned by his wife, emerging from it all ‘still a man of high conviction.’

Hukom Roldan starred Jaime de la Rosa in the title role, with Emma Alegre as the wife.

Screenplay by Ateng Osorio based on the story by Luz del Mundo. —RKC
