Has Rufa Mae found Mr. Right?

Just like Super B, the comedic super heroine she played on the big screen a couple of years ago, Rufa Mae Quinto is on Cloud Nine nowadays because she has finally found the guy she would like to tie the knot and grow old with.

Although she won’t reveal the name of her current beau just yet (except to say that he is non-showbiz), Rufa Mae can go on for hours talking about him — and she did.

Over lunch a few days ago, Rufa Mae told us that the guy is a longtime friend whom she never saw as someone special until recently. He lavishes her not only with material things but with love and attention that extends to her family.

As an example, Rufa Mae confirmed that her boyfriend “partnered” with her in buying a P30-M single detached townhouse in San Francisco, USA. Although Rufa Mae wouldn’t reveal the extent of his “participation,” she said that giving such gifts is second nature to him whom she describes candidly as “rich.”

Which is not to say that money is what attracted Rufa Mae to him. Take note that the guy has been courting Rufa Mae for years now. As she puts it, “kung ang ginusto ko yung pera niya, hindi ba dapat dati ko na siya sinagot?” She added that it was actually his status that turned her off in the beginning because she thought a life with him would be complicated.

But slowly, lovingly, the guy won Rufa Mae’s heart with true love. According to the actress, he has been a shoulder to cry on even during the times Rufa Mae had someone else. Never demanding, always waiting, the guy made Rufa Mae realize that sometimes, one ends up saving the best for last.

Unless people think that the guy loves Rufa Mae more than she loves him, know that the actress has decided to slow down the pace of her career by next year so she could have time to give back the love that he deserves. Her forthcoming movie with Manny Pacquiao, the Metro Manila Film Festival entry Wapakman, will be her swan song of sorts, she said.

To have made such a decision tells of the intensity of Rufa Mae’s feelings for him. One of the most hardworking women in local show business, and a breadwinner of her family, the actress must have really been smitten to have decided to go on semi-retirement “all for him.”

Once married, Rufa Mae said she will enjoy his company first before having a baby. They also plan to travel a lot so they could build more memories to last them a lifetime.

Career-wise, the actress said she will then choose projects that interest her. Quality over quantity, as she puts it. After all, she really wouldn’t need to work at all with him as her husband, right?

Still, Rufa Mae promises her fans that she won’t turn her back on the limelight for good. They would still see her sometimes in shows such as the ones she is part of now namely Darna, S.O.P., Bubble Gang and Showbiz Central.

She will also continue taking on select product endorsement deals such as the ones she has with Talk ‘N Text and Philosophy by Mikaela.

When asked to describe her boyfriend, Rufa Mae went starry-eyed and said, “Siya na ang pagsisilbihan ko ng habang buhay...

“He makes me feel like a princess in a Disney film — si Cinderella pero working girl!”

In response, we could only quote her famous line — “Todo na to!
