Family, friends gather once more for Daboy

MANILA, Philippines – How time flies!

You blink and when you look again, it has been a year since Rudy “Daboy” Fernandez succumbed to cancer which he battled for more than two years.

To mark Daboy’s first death anniversary last Sunday, June 7, his wife Lorna Tolentino and family (sons Renz and Ralph) invited friends to say “Hello!” to Daboy at the family mausoleum at the Heritage Park in Taguig City, hear Mass and partake of a sumptuous catered dinner at the same hall where the star-studded wake for Daboy was held.

Among those present were Daboy’s bosom buddies Sen. Jinggoy Estrada who has lost 50 pounds, Sen. Bong Revilla who himself has lost 20 pounds and losing some more (for his role as Ang Panday in his own company’s 2009 Metro Filmfest entry) and Phillip Salvador who has shaven his pate clean also for Ang Panday.

Still grieving, Lorna is slowly but surely moving on. She has released the commemorative, inspiring album H.o.p.e. Vol. 2 (in memory of Daboy), moved from GMA (where she co-hosted the showbiz talk show Startalk) to ABS-CBN and, yesterday, flew to Dubai with Jinggoy for the screening of their starrer Katas ng Saudi. From Dubai, Lorna will proceed alone to Kuwait for another Katas screening. Photos By Ricky Lo
