Mariel Rodriguez endorses Hotpink, a new line of lingerie for women. Hotpink is owned by Kaye and Carlo Garcia. Kaye is Mariel’s elder sister. Kaye was the lady in that Sunsilk shampoo commercial where Drew Arellano addresses her as pare. Kaye got Mariel to endorse Hotpink because she embodies all that Hotpink is. Mariel and Kaye grew up together. They are also similar in many ways. Both love to shop. They have the same laugh and they both love to talk. And while growing up, they would go to Japan to spend summer. Read on.
Describe your relationship right now and when you were growing up.
Kaye: My sister and I grew up close to each other because our age gap is only two years so we had the same interests. Also, since our parents were away, it felt like we only had each other. Right now, we’ve reached a mature kind of relationship where a certain level of respect towards each other is evident. We support each other without meddling in each other’s affairs.
Mariel: Very close. We would always share clothes.
What were your favorite bonding moments when you were growing up?
Kaye: We played together a lot.
Mariel: Every summer, we would go to Japan. That was really fun.
What was your favorite toy when you were kids?
Kaye: Barbie
Mariel: Baby Face dolls
First movie that you watched together.
Kaye: I can’t remember (sorry!) But we had a lot of favorites — Mermaids, Beaches, Steel Magnolias, Honey I Shrunk the Kids, Edward Scissorhands, etc.

What are your similarities? Differences?
Kaye: We have the same temper. We think the same way. However, I’m more reserved and conservative with my choices. She takes more risks.
Mariel: We have the same laugh and we are both talkative.

Kaye: Shopping
Mariel: Shopping. It’s so much fun. Or just having lunch as a family.
What is the most memorable gift you have given each other and why?
Kaye: She gave me cross stitch books when we were kids and I‘ll never forget it. She’s given me more expensive gifts but the cross stitch books stand out in my mind because she had to save money for them and she could have bought herself something instead of buying gifts for me.
Mariel: She gave me pearls. I always wear them.
What was the biggest surprise you had done for each other?
Mariel: She had a cake made for me on my birthday.
Do you still share your personal problems with each other?
Kaye: Yes... not as much as before because I’m not quite as problematic now but yes I can tell her anything.
Mariel: Yes, of course.

Kaye: She never gives advice. She listens and supports all my decisions.

What quality of your sister do you wish you have?
Kaye: Her courage.
Mariel: She is so mature! She’s the more serious one. I’m playful and naughty. She is the more dependable one.
From 1 to 10, 10 being the highest, rate yourself as a sister.

Mariel: 8
What is the best thing about being Mariel’s sister? About being Kaye’s sister? Why?
Kaye: I’m proud to be her sister. She has made a name for herself from scratch and that’s truly admirable.
