The new MTV VJs: 3 for the show

It will be three times the fun and fanfare on MTV Philippines as new VJs Kat Alano, Andi Manzano and Sib Sibulo show their quirks on the small screen.

Imagine Kat presenting songs in different accents, Andi covering events while wall climbing or kayaking and Sib interviewing musical acts in English, Filipino and Cebuano — all at the same time.

These are some of the MTV VJs’ amazing talents and interests that will give a new look on MTV.

“We are honored to be part of MTV,” offer Kat, Andi and Sib after winning the recently-concluded Survivor-Project Runaway-inspired MTV VJ Hunt. “It’s also a challenge because of the big shoes Donita Rose and KC Montero left. The pressure will always be there.”

Now that the MTV bug bit them, there’s nothing the three should worry about. They will surely pull it through.

The most veteran of the triumvirate, Kat has hosted TV shows like Wowowee and E-club. She has acted in soaps and movies like Ysabella, First Day High and Kasal, Kasali, Kasalo. The half-Pinay, half-English was once a Studio 23 VJ.

Miriam College  student Andi, on the other hand, is a Magic 89.9 DJ and courtside reporter of FEU, while Sib used to have his own show on Jack TV.

Sib, a true-blooded Atenean, also hosts live events and outdoor concerts like Tower of Doom Seige Tour and PULP Summerslam.

Without a doubt, the new faces of MTV fit their role to a T.

Kat, Andi and Sib join the MTV VJs circle which includes Maggie Wilson, Anne Curtis and Pinoy Big Brother Celebrity Edition 2 housemate, Victor Basa.

Are they ready to bring back the glory days of MTV since another music channel has taken over the lead in the ratings game?

“MTV will always be MTV,” Kat’s quick reply.

“We hope to give a not-so-conservative image,” she comments on the kind of attitude she, Andi and Sib can bring to the channel. “It’s a little more out there. Aside from covering all genres of music, MTV will have travelogues. It will create shows focusing on the youth culture and new programs that will educate them.”

All this welcome change is part of the new MTV Philippines as it unveils a lifestyle format and content. The music channel will carry the flavor of its American counterpart but with a Pinoy touch.

MTV Philippines has finally earned its independence from its mother network in Singapore.

Expect MTV Philippines to have locally-produced shows close to everyone’s heart. It will be as easy as ABC because Kat, Andi and Sib represent the MTV market.

“We know what will entertain them, what they want to see,” the three Vjs say. As a first step, the VJs are using Taglish in their repartee and spiels.

MTV fans will see Kat, Andi and Sib alternately hosting Time Out, Gimme Ten and Campus Crashers.

Time Out takes the hosts to the hottest events around the country. Done in a fun and unique way, the show gives televiewers a quick break from their work or from school. They will also learn new things to do.

Want to put your favorite song or artist on top of the list? Then Gimme Ten, a music video countdown, is the right venue for you.

Campus Crashers visits schools and checks out what’s in and hot for the students.

Although it’s too early to say, many think Kat, Andi and Sib are bound for something bigger: MTV in Singapore. Besides, everybody misses seeing more Pinoy talents on MTV Asia. Right, Donita and KC?
