In the past two issues of Funfare, Becky Aguila, manager of Angel Locsin, said quite a mouthful about her and Angel’s father Angel Colmenares’ joint decision not to renew Angel’s five-year contract with GMA which expired last March 31.
But, Funfare sources say, Angel has a binding contract with GMA’s Artist Center as far as her “commercials” commitments are concerned, good until 2008.
Angel’s other existing contract (for movies) is with the Regal Matriarch Mother Lily of Regal Films.
Last Sunday on The Buzz, Becky and Angel’s father hinted that Angel might sign up with ABS-CBN as soon as she comes back from London where, Becky claimed, Angel is taking a two-week crash course at the London Fashion School in preparation for a sports store Angel is planning to open.
According to another Funfare source, Becky has actually been sending “feelers” to ABS-CBN months before the expiration of Angel’s contract with GMA.
Here’s the official statement of GMA, e-mailed to Funfare by Wilma Galvante (photo), the network’s senior vice president for Entertainment TV:
“We are shocked and saddened that Angel Locsin and her manager treated us this way after all the effort we have done for them throughout the years. We took care of Angel Locsin and her career and we made her the star that she is today.
“They could have shown the network more courtesy by being more truthful to us with their real intentions.
“Sadly, we were the last to know about their real plans. We just hope that she finds peace with her decisions.
