Alfred on the spot

"I really find you… mysterious. Parang there’s always something more to find out about you. There’s always something that would interest me enough to know more about you. It’s an ongoing process. And I think you never fail to surprise anyone with what you have, what you can do. That’s just my impression of you."

Really? After hearing that statement from someone who’s pretty much a part of every kolehiyala’s fantasy, I was stumped.

I didn’t expect to hear such a description about me from anyone. That was probably one thing I never thought myself as. Mysterious? Whoa!

I never even for once thought some people would see me as that. Of course I couldn’t help but feel really special after Alfred Vargas, a good friend of mine, disclosed his thoughts to me.

Alfred is also a good friend of my manager. He was our guest singer in my show with Diana Zubiri last year.

That was the first time I met and worked with him. Since then, I’ve never really heard about him having a girlfriend.

In fact, I believe he’s been single for quite some time now. For how long?

" A while… a while lang," he says.

But how can an Alfred Vargas be single? He’s nice, very soft-spoken, not to mention good-looking.

But what is this thing with him and Diana? Lately, I’ve come across a few articles on him and Diana talking about how they’re taking their love team in Encantadia to the next level – reality.

They’re both my friends, and to tell you the truth, I’ve never really bothered asking them what really is going on between them.

"Well, as showbiz as this may sound, Diana and I are really good friends because we came from the same film outfit ( Seiko Films ). As for the love team, I think we really have good chemistry on screen," says Alfred.

"Our friendship registers on screen. That’s why people who watch us get that feeling," he adds.

" She’s one of my closest friends in showbiz. She knows a lot about me," he further explains.

The very first question I asked Alfred was: "Do you have a girlfriend?". He said no, but admitted he’s "inspired."

Hmm
. Is Diana his inspiration? Alfred replied, " She inspires me to work harder, to do well."

Alfred didn’t really tell me exactly who it is who’s inspiring him at this point. All he said was, "It’s a secret."

Ok, ok. I’ll let that go. I guess it’s not that easy trying to squeeze out some juicy bits of information from a bachelor like Alfred.

Speaking of bachelors, I figured he’s been single for quite some time now and I’m beginning to think he might be one of those really picky guys.

What type of girl can possibly take him out of that "eligible bachelor" category?

Alfred wants a girl who is simple, charming and witty. These are the first things he looks for.

When he does find that simple, charming, and witty girl, how can he possibly find time to spend with her, given his busy schedule?

"That’s one thing we’ll have to deal with, if ever. But if it’s love naman, there will always be a way right?," he replies.

Am I sensing a hopeless romantic behind Alfred’s serious and charming face?

"Sometimes, I’m a real hopeless romantic, but sometimes I’m in touch with reality," he answers.

It’s so nice to know guys who actually admit they can be hopeless romantics at times exist.

At the end of our interview, I just had to try and ask Alfred again who it is who’s inspiring him right now.

His answer was very short and sweet:" My mom."

I guess that description he gave me as the Juliana he knows fits the Alfred I just interviewed as well.

I’m looking forward to knowing more about this friend of mine who’s full of surprises as well.

By the way, just an update on my brother. I recently met a special teacher who suggested that I help my brother pursue his love for music.

He told me it would be a good idea to enroll my brother in a music school.

If by any chance you know a music school for special children, preferably in Quezon City, please do e-mail (juliana-palermo785@yahoo.com) me about it. Thank you so much for your response. God Bless!
