CEBU, Philippines - Football action returns to the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu campus for the SHS-Ateneo de Cebu Friendship Cup tomorrow. Titles in four age groups are up for grabs in the football festival that is designed to provide more exposure and actual games for developmental teams. The age group categories are players 8, players 10, boys 15 and girls 17.
Confirmed to participate are teams from San Roque Football Club, BMALV, Camp Lapu-Lapu, South Hills, BRIGHT Academy, Lapu-Lapu Central United, St. Theresa’s College, CIC-Mandaue, Sacred Heart School-Hijas, USC North, Barili FC, SOS, Dynamo, Canduman Football Club, Count FC, Warshocks, Suba-Basbas, and host SHS-AdC.
Tournament chairman Engr. Nilo Ferraren said the primary objective of the games is for exposure and fun. “We still lack games for the age group players and this is one way to prepare for the big tournaments on the calendar,” Ferraren said.
The games are a follow-up to the St. Ignatius Goodwill Games held last month and involved the Under 13 and 17 age groups. The games are also expected to provide tune-up exposure for the upcoming 15th Aboitiz Football Cup.
Ferraren also expressed his gratitude to SHS-Ateneo de Cebu for hosting the event. “We already know how we lack fields aside from competitions. This is a very healthy sign for Cebu football,” Ferraren added.
