CEBU, Philippines - Close to a hundred riders from all over the country will take part in the 1st Mayor Michael Rama Invitational Motocross Cup this Sunday at the South Road Properties (SRP).
The event was supposed to be held last summer as part of the Cebufest, but it did not push through when the multi-sport spectacle was cancelled due to budgetary constraints.
This time, PowerSports Promotions led by Jonas Adlawan in partnership with Kopiko and city government of Cebu will finally stage one of the biggest motocross competitions in Cebu this year.
The categories to be contested are the beginners, mini, open production, executive, veterans, mini, pro open, and pro expert. There will also be a special 'habal-habal' division.
“Hopefully, if plans push through, we will be doing a regional series race for the rest of the year,” said Adlawan.
Teams from Luzon and other areas in the Vis-Min region have already confirmed their participation.
Among the top daredevils to watch out for include Kenneth San Andres, Dondon Yuson, Jovie Saulog and Buboy Fernandez of Team Pacquiao.
Expected to give them a tough challenge and defend Cebu's turf are the likes of Jon Eleazar "Jon-Jon" Adlawan, Pepo Rubi and the Abellar brothers Jovannie and Juvenil.
Cash prizes and trophies are at stake for the winners of each category. - THE FREEMAN
