CEBU, Philippines - Evans Tumaliwan and Arturo Go led the winners of the Canadian Chamber (Cancham)-PLDT Alpha enterprise Golf Tournament played yesterday at the Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
Tumaliwan fired nines of 34 and 41 for a gross three-over-par 75 strokes. He bagged the lowest gross honors.
The overall lowest net title went to Go with 69 strokes off a gross 83. Go fired three birdies during the round and established a handicap of 14 strokes in the System-36 format.
The class A title went to Emmanuel Tesaluna with a net score of 70 strokes winning the title having a lower established handicap over Andrew Aznar.
Tesaluna established a handicap of 11 strokes while Aznar, who settled for the first runner-up honors, established a handicap of 13 and also made a net 70.
Second runner-up for the premiere handicap category went to Victor Gocela with a net score of 71 beating Vicente Tacocong in the countback. Both established handicaps of 9, but Gocela had more birdies to prevail.
The class B title went to the comebacking Paulino ‘Boy’ Franco with a net score of 72 strokes winning the title by virtue of having established the lowest handicap among all those who finished with the same net score.
First runner-up for class B was John Quisumbing also with a net 72 followed by Rosauro Mangaser on third with his 72. Franco established a handicap of 16 while Quisumbing had 17 and Mangaser had 18.
Mangaser also won the trophy after edging Edwin Espina in the tie break having scored more birdies.
Alvin Lim topped class C where the top three placers also scored net one-over-par 73 strokes. Lim won the title after beating Chito Villareal in the tie break having made more pars. Both established handicaps of 22 strokes.
Villareal settled for the first runner-up honors beating Mitch Locsin by virtue of a lower established handicap. Villareal established a handicap of 22 while Locsin had 26.
The invitational tournament was a joint project of the Cebu Chapter of Cancham headed by Jack Gaisano and PLDT Alpha Enterprise. - THE FREEMAN
