CEBU, Philippines - The 5th Albino D. Gothong Memorial Golf Tournament or the Amo Cup tees off today at the par-72 Alta Vista Golf and Country Club.
The tournament is held in honor of the late patron of golf and sports, whose tournaments lifted the standard of golf events in Cebu.
As of yesterday afternoon, a total of 283 players have registered to take part in the two-day, 18-hole competition that is using the medal play format.
Late entries can still be accepted today and tomorrow. Entry fee is pegged at P2,000 per player and each participant will get a Nike golf shirt and a Rudy Project umbrella.
At stake in the event will be prizes for the players with the lowest gross and lowest net as well as the top three for classes A, B, and C for the members, the open category for guests, and seniors.
There will also be awards for the lowest gross and lowest net in the super seniors, and ladies. Super seniors is for players aged 65 years old and above.
There will also be special awards for nearest the pin on the par-3 hole number 6 and the most accurate drive on the par-4 hole number 11.
This tournament will allow the participants to use their full handicap, but it will be the lowest for the period of April to June.
At stake for a hole-in-one are a Hyundai Eon, a Club Car golf cart, a residential lot from Santa Lucia Realty, a travel certificate to Singapore from Marist Royal Holidays Travel and Tours, and motorcycles from Norkis Trading and skygo.
In case more than one player will score an ace on a designated hole, the prizes will have to be equally shared.
The awards ceremony for the tournament will be held tomorrow evening at the AVGCC ballroom.
Lots of raffle prizes are also up for grabs for the participants. - THE FREEMAN
