CEBU, Philippines - The exciting match-up between rising ALA Boxing Gym star Genesis "Azukal" Servania and the highly experienced Mexican toughie Genaro "Poblanito" Garcia during the "Pinoy Pride 14:Night of Champions" will be shown on Studio 23 today from 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm.
The Bacolod City-native Servania passed his first major test with flying colors against the seasoned Garcia, who has figured in eight world title bouts spotlighted by a second round TKO win over the legendary Rafael Marquez.
Servania showed his wide array of skills and smarts early in the bout before ending the 12-round contest with great display of punching firepower to earn the nod of the three judges in a well-deserved unanimous decision victory.
During interviews after the fight, Garcia was quoted as saying "Servania is strong. Stronger than Nishioka," referring to the Japanese world champion Toshiaki Nishioka of Japan whom Garcia also lost to via 12th round TKO.
Due to public demand, the "Pinoy Pride 14" will again be aired, this time with the full Servania-Garcia bout for the WBC Silver International super bantamweight belt.
PP 14 also features WBO No.1 flyweight contender Milan "Metodico" Melindo against former world champion and current WBO No.9 Jesus Gelez of Colombia for the WBO International 112-pound championship. Melindo won via a smashing first round stoppage.
In the main event of the slambang card staged at the Resorts World Hotel and Casino in Pasay City, two-division world champion Donnie "Ahas" Nietes retained his WBO light flyweight crown with a 12-round unanimous decision win over the hard-charging Mexican prospect Felipe Salguero.
The Pinoy Pride 14 was presented by ALA Promotions and ABS-CBN Sports in association with Cobra 'Tunay na Lakas' Energy Drink and Summit Natural Drinking Water. (FREEMAN)
