CEBU, Philippines - After a spectacular performance in dancesport, the Cebu City Niños hauled more golds in athletics, arnis and swimming events of the 2nd PSC-POC Philippine National Games (PNG) in Dumaguete City.
Karen Mae Indaya could now forget her heart-breaking experience in the Palarong Pambansa two weeks ago in Lingayen, Pangasinan by clinching TCC’s first gold in swimming.
Indaya, an incoming first year high school student at the University of Cebu, topped the 400m freestyle in the girls 11-12 category.
Two other TCC tankers in Anthony Linn Navarro and Romilyn Nina Ignacio snatched gold medals in their respective events.
Navarro and Ignacio shone brightly in the 200m backstroke under the 13-14 age group. Ignacio also took bronze in the 400m freestyle event.
Michael Ichiro bagged a silver in the boys 13-14 400m freestyle.
On the other hand, Aiza Suwaybaguio of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF) produced TCC’s first gold in athletics after lording it over in the senior girls 800m run.
Iren Baluran and Ernesto Ybanez got onesilver each in the senior division of triple jump, while Jade Marie Recto came up with a silver in shotput and a bronze in discus throw.
Francis Berizo wound up with a bronze in shotput, while Dharl Pitogo got a bronze in the 110m hurdles.
In arnis, June Babe Caballes made her father/coach Max Caballes proud as well as the whole TCC squad after romping off with a golden performance in the cruiserweight division of full combat.
Another female stick-fighter, Maryann Penalosa, claimed a bronze in the bantamweight class.
In lawn tennis, Cebu’s top female netter Sally Mae Siso settled for only silver after bowing to Philippine Team member Marnel Rudas, 6-2, 6-3, while Hannah Grace Espinosa ended her bid in the singles competition with a bronze. - THE FREEMAN
