Dakay takes the rein as new CFA president

CEBU, Philippines - After a long wait, the Cebu Football Association (CFA) finally revealed its new set of officers with Pericles “Ricky” Dakay, an engineer by profession, as its president.

Dakay was actually part of the previous administration only to resign later on.

However, Dakay remained supportive to the sport that eventually earned him the most important seat in Cebu’s governing body of football.

Enrico "Rico" Navarro, sports columnist of The Freeman who is also the athletic director of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu, was elected vice-president, while Joey Herrera will serve as secretary-general and Michael Veloso as treasurer.

During their first official board meeting last May 14 at Casino Español de Cebu, different committee heads were being named. ERCO’s main man Engr. Rodney Orale will take charge of the referees committee, Raffy Musni in technical development and membership committee and Glenn Quisido in the tournament committee.

Nimrod NL Quiñones, managing editor of The Freeman and the longest-serving commissioner of the Cebu City Sports Commission (CCSC), will head the discipline and security committee, while Fr. Heinz Kulueke leads the grounds committee.

Aside from being the vice president, Navarro will also handle the marketing and publicity committee, while Veloso heads the finance committee.

In a joint statement, the officers have expressed their commitment to unite the Cebu football scene, recognize all stakeholders and work with them to uplift the sport in Cebu and consequently contribute to current growth that Philippine football is experiencing.

The officers will lay out their medium and long-term plans for Cebu football in next few weeks.  (FREEMAN)
