CEBU, Philippines - Colombian former world champion Jesus ‘El Cuchilla’ Geles promised to give undefeated ALA Boxing Gym stalwart Milan ‘El Metodico’ Melindo a run for his money as they face each other in ‘Pinoy Pride 14: Night of Champions’ on June 2 at the Resorts World Hotel and Casino in Manila.
The bout will be the main supporting event of the card.
The highlight of the card is two-division world champion and current WBO Light Flyweight World Champion Donnie “Ahas” Nietes defending his title against WBO and IBF World # 7 Felipe Salguero.
The main supporting bout is, however, seen to steal the show.
Melindo, one of the ALA fighters expected to fight for a world title this year together with bantamweight contender AJ ‘Bazooka’ Banal, will try to capture the vacant WBO International flyweight title against Geles.
In an e-mail sent to ALA Promotions, the 24-year-old Colombian said he can match up with Melindo’s skill and power inside the ring.
“Melindo is known to be a technical fighter. I am also a technical fighter and this will be a very interesting fight. I am hungry and am preparing myself to win,” said Geles who won the WBO light flyweight title against hard charging Mexican Ramon Garcia Hirales last year but lost it in a rematch.
“I am still young and hungry to regain my title and at 112, I am comfortable. I learned a lot from losing my world title and it will surely help me win my fight with Melindo. KO or decision I am preparing myself to win and I would like to thank ALA Promotions and All Star Boxing Tuto Zabala, Jr. and my manager Osvaldo Martinez for believing in me and giving me another opportunity,” he added.
The fight card also includes rising undefeated Filipino prospect Genesis “Azukal” Servania going up against three-time world title challenger Genaro ‘Poblanito’ Garcia of Mexico. (FREEMAN)
