CEBU, Philippines - The sixth edition of the Congressman Red Durano Cup 19-Under Inter-Town Basketball Tournament kicked off with flying colors last Wednesday at the Carmen Sports Complex in the municipality of Carmen north of Cebu.
Cebu Fifth District Rep. Red Durano topped the list of luminaries who graced the affair along with Provincial Board (PB) member Jude Thaddeus Durano-Sybico and his sister Remedios Carmen “Ivy” Durano-Meca, president of the Cebu Provincial Councilors League.
They were joined by Borbon Mayor Bernard "Butch" Sepulveda and Vice Mayor Noel Dotillos, Sogod Mayor Lissa Marie Durano, Mayor Dan Jusay of Catmon, Vice Mayor Al Damiles, Ramonette Mahinay, president of the Association of Barangay Councils of Danao City, Mayor Joel Quiño of Compostela and former Liloan Councilor Bobby Motus.
The mayors of Camotes Island also came in full force during namely Luciano “Boy” Rama, Jr. of Poro, Erwin Yu of Tudela, Aly Arquillano of San Francisco and Mayor Jesus “Jet” Fernandez, Jr. of Pilar.
During his speech, Rep. Durano said he was happy that the sports tournament lasted for six years already. He said the event is aimed not only at promoting camaraderie and unity but also providing the youth an avenue to showcase their hardcourt talents.
For his part, tournament chairman and Borbon Councilor Roy Melgo said Congressman Durano drew a lot of praise for his concern to the youth in their district composed of Borbon, Sogod, Catmon, Carmen, Compostela and Liloan along with Pilar, Tudela, Poro and San Francisco of Camotes island.
“This annual event aims to promote sportsmanship, fair play, development of the moral values of athletes, and foster fellowship and goodwill among the member towns of the 5th district of Cebu,” said Melgo. (FREEMAN)
