CEBU, Philippines - Super bantamweight prospect Dodie Boy Peñalosa, Jr. will once again be put to a major test by a foreign opponent, this time against Alex Buckie of Indonesia in the main event of ‘Dugong Kampeon V’ on April 21 at the Mandaue City Sports and Cultural Complex.
Coming off a spectacular first round demolition of Thai Superjames Singmanasak last January 28 in Caloocan City, Peñalosa aims for his ninth straight win by knockout against Buckie.
Buckie will be Peñalosa's third foreign foe after Singmanasak and another Thai Kongfah Kiatpracha, whom he finished off in third round in August last year also at the Mandaue sports complex.
A third generation of former world champions, Peñalosa is the son of former two-division titlist Dodie Boy Sr. and nephew of Pinoy ring icon turned boxing promoter Gerry Peñalosa.
In the supporting bout of the slambang show presented by GerryPens Promotion and GMA 7, Philippine featherweight champion Michael ‘Hammer Fist’ Farenas will slug it out with former PBF super bantamweight king Jason ‘Siaton Boy’ Egera in a non-title tiff scheduled for 10 rounds.
Peñalosa’s younger brother Dave will see action against JR Salvador of Mandaue City.
The rest of the card features Ren Ren Ruiz vs. Joebert Alvarez, Raymond Empic vs. Rommel Bangirigo, Jhack Tepora vs. Sherwin Caday, Jayson Borleo vs. Jun Ryan Quimbo, John Kenan Villaflor vs. Andrew Palas and Margarito Moya vs. Roel Sumabong. - (THE FREEMAN)
