CEBU, Philippines - Joseph Rojo of Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu leads the race for the coveted Karter of the Year award with 42 points in the 2012 Kartzone Superkart Series at Kartzone in Brgy. Kasambagan, this city.
There's no room for Rojo to relax though as he is ahead by only two points from fellow SHS-AdC karter Jette Calderon. Tonyo Carcel of Paref-Springdale is at close third with 39 points followed by Sean Velasco with 26 points and Panpan Reroma with 15.
The sixth to 10th placers in the KOY standings are Vince Rojo and Kali Carcel with 13 points apiece, JT Gullas with 12 points, Peter Edward Lim and Wilson Ong with eight points each.
Rojo, Calderon and Carcel are also the top three finishers of the premiere KT expert division.
Joseph’s brother Vince outsmarted Kali Carcel for the top spot in the KT novice class despite posting similar 42 points as Peter Edward Lim place third with 37 points.
Panpan Reroma dominated the KT masters class with 45 points followed by Regan King (36) and Wilson Ong (20).
Regan King’s sons Renzo and Rex duplicated their dad’s winning formula to get a spot in the podium in their respective classes.
Renzo placed second in the SQ cadet won by Rap-Rap Gutierrez, while Rex placed third in the mini ROK class behind Jarond Messina.
Four-year-old Seven Aleman stole part of the limelight not only for placing third in the SQ Cadet, but also for being the youngest karter in all Kartzone-organized races ever. — Caecent No-ot Magsumbol
Clive Fermin also had a good time over the weekend after outmaneuvering early favorite Jess Garcia for the top spot in the Honda expert race as Dondi Binoya landed third. Fermin earned a total of 50 points as against Garcia's 35.
Frederick Cortes claimed the Honda novice division title with 47 points. Charles Lim placed second with 42 points followed by Patrick See with 32. - THE FREEMAN
