Tracksters move to SHS-AdC for training

CEBU, Philippines - With the ongoing renovation of the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC) track oval, the Team Cebu City Niños athletics team bound for national competitions is training at the Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu track in Canduman, Mandaue City.

University of Cebu (UC) athletics head coach Babette Capangpangan said that they could no longer go to the CCSC oval for the training, so they tried to find possible training venues and found the SHS-AdC rubberized track.

Though, it’s quite far from most of the athletes, they manage to arranged schedules on when to have their practices there. Aside from SHS-AdC, they also do uphill training at the San Carlos Heights and Beverly Hills.

“We need to give a little bit of sacrifice, which was also okay with the athletes. Anyway, when the track oval will be done, we can already resume our training there,” said Capangpangan.

They are now preparing for two national events, the Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) National Meet on April and Philippine National Games (PNG) in May.

“If our athletes will be in good condition during their respective races, I can really assure that they could harvest gold medals for Team Cebu City,” said Capangpangan.

Multi-titled trackster Lindley Fran Navaja of the University of Cebu (UC) will lead TCC's charge in athletics along with Dharl Pitogo, Ernesto Ybañez and Irene Baluran as well as Lorna Olarita and Khenly Parcon of the University of Southern Philippines Foundation (USPF).

“As track athletes we’re already used to practicing in different kinds of tracks, either it’s rubberized or in land. We just gave our little sacrifices as of the moment, but we are all determined to win in all our national races that’s why we never stopped training,” said Navaja. (FREEMAN)
