“Ready set,” tsunamiii!,” could probably be the next starting words for a running event, especially the sprints. Coach Precing Capangpangan doesn’t have to look elsewhere to find talents for an athletics team. I was both amused and pissed off on what happened on that chaotic Monday morning. How could people be so stupid to believe that a tsunami could happen in Cebu City which is surrounded by so many islands? Some even went to the extent of going to Busay and slept there. My neighbor even packed her things including a refrigerator in a pick up truck and trottled to Manipis, Naga. She should have known that she’s in more danger with landslides. Well, you can’t blame these people they’ve probably been watching too much disaster movies “2012”, “Sinking of Japan”, and “Deep Impact” just to mention a few. Going back to that “5K” run that crowded Colon St, some of the people that ran there would have beaten Vertek Buenavista or Kenyan Abraham Missos. Some even ran barefooted and could put makers of Vibram shoes out of business. Organizers intending to do a tsunami run could start at Pasil and finish at Busay. We also like to invite that guy in the motorcycle who triggered the commotion, to join the race organizers. He could be a good race director. Imagine he could organize a race in just a few minutes “wala pay” entry fee. To appreciate his efforts, force him to join Bro. Carlo Bacalla and Haide Acuna to run from the Capitol to Toledo City, passing the transcentral highway. Di ba he scared people to run to the mountains?
Coast to coast ultra 2
It’s all system’s go for the 2nd Coast to Coast 65K ultramarathon set on April 29 from the Cebu Provincial Capitol to the old Toledo City hall passing the Transcentral highway. If you notice, the route is reversed from last year’s. This would make the race a bit easier since there would be lesser climbs. In response to the clamor of runners, Jonel Mendoza is reducing entry fee to Php950.00. And for the first time, there will be a relay category, with each runner completing 32.5km. The runners then swap places after properly checked by marshals. Entry fee is Php 550.00 per runner. In the solo category, a participant is entitled to a 3 –inch finisher’s medal, dri-fit shirt and post meals and drinks. While in the relay, the finisher gets a 2” medal, dri-fit shirt and post meal and drinks. Cut-off time is 10 hours while gun start is at 4am. Registration is now ongoing at Runnr Ayala.
